Sutter Medical - News - News-Blog - Field report SuperGliss® non-stick ELP: ideal to meet the challenges of microsurgical procedures

The SuperGliss non-stick ELP bipolar forceps, with their shorter and more delicate ELP (Extra Low Profile) tips compared to standard SuperGliss non-stick bipolar forceps, are particularly suitable for fine microsurgical procedures.

A user from the Department of Neurosurgery, University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany, reports on his experience with the SuperGliss non-stick ELP bipolar forceps in the operating room:

“Intracranially, I mainly use the SuperGliss non-stick bipolar forceps with the Extra Low Profile (ELP) tip type in various lengths, initially 0.7 mm wide, later 0.2 mm. The fine tips enable precise dissection and coagulation. The design of the instrument allows a clear view along the legs of the forceps and past the tips to the tissue structures in focus. Thanks to the non-stick technology, there is hardly any adhesion, so excessive rinsing, which could obstruct the view, is not necessary. The heat effect on the surrounding tissue can be well dosed, so that precise coagulation is possible even in the vicinity of nerves and vessels without damaging them.

The predetermined tension of the legs is well suited for spreading the Sylvian fissure, for example. The forceps give good feedback in the hand about the force applied at the tip. During this procedure, there is always the smallest bleeding, which can either be directly coagulated or tamponaded. The forceps handle is precise and, despite the thin tip, sufficiently strong to apply local pressure, so that it is usually not necessary to change the instrument. For the coagulation of larger vessels or of tissue with a strong blood supply, e.g. in case of an AVM or a tumor, I recommend the use of a SuperGliss non-stick ELP with a 0.7 mm tip, with which there is hardly any adhesion to the tissue even at a higher current intensity.“

The material specially developed for our SuperGliss® non-stick bipolar forceps prevents overheating of the tips during coagulation. Laboratory tests confirm the non-stick properties that last throughout the lifetime of the instrument. The Extra Low Profile (ELP) tips are shorter and more delicate. Their design is ideal to meet the challenges of fine, microsurgical interventions. Find all models of the SuperGliss non-stick ELP as well as other product lines for a variety of surgical needs in our SuperGliss non-stick bipolar forceps series
